Ash Wednesday
The Danes have been invited to join the Finnish and the Swedish Lutheran churches for their Ash Wednesday celebration. In the Danish Lutheran Church we usually only celebrate Fastelavn before Lent. Most other Lutherans churches all over the world also celebrate Ash Wednesday, which is 46 days before Easter (40 days not counting the Sundays).
Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The ashes used are gathered after the Palm Crosses from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned.
The celebration will take place February 17th, 7.00 pm at Agricola, the Finnish Lutheran Church, 25 Old York Mills, Toronto. Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes is offered during the service.
